Surrealism Watercolors
Surrealism is a 20th-century art for in which an artist or writer combines unrelated images or events in a very strange and dreamlike way.
Steps-
1. Research Surrealism Artists for inspiration
2. Draw design using pencil on watercolor paper
3. Experiment with water color pencils to add color
Experiments to try- dip pencil in water directly, use wet brush over water color pencil marks, wet the page then add watercolor pencil on top, wet page and wet watercolor pencil

Choice Project 2

Teacher Portraits-
Use the image provided to draw the
teacher you have chosen.
Steps-
1.
Choose a style of art to inspire the
portrait
2.
Choose a technique to outline the
portrait
3.
Choose the material (paint, color
pencil, oil pastels, markers, pencil, etc.) that best suits your project
Techniques- choose the technique that best suits
your needs & abilities
1. Trace the outline using the image
behind the paper
2. Fold the image in half and draw the
other half
3. Create a grid over the image and on
your paper
Art Styles- choose one of the styles to draw the
teacher portrait
Comic book
style (inspired by the artist Roy Lichtenstein)
Pop Art style (inspired by the artist Andy
Warhol)
Propaganda
Art Style (inspired by the artist Shepard Fairey)

8th grade Group Projects
Paper Cranes- one thousand to be precise- strung together and hung up have a multitude of cultural meanings in the east beyond being beautiful to behold. They are symbolic of peace, health, prosperity and mythical wisdom, especially if you fold 1000 of them!
OBJECTIVE- fold at least 10 paper cranes.
GOAL- we will fold and hang from the ceiling 1,000 cranes

OBJECTIVE- create an abstract artwork using acrylic paints
GOAL- these paintings will be hung in the office and around the school

Small Canvas Mural
OBJECTIVE- paint a small canvas with a symbol, image, or design
GOAL- these paintings will be hung together to create a mural in the hallway
Tips- keep the design, colors and images simple
Techniques- think of things that you like and symbols that represent those things
Example- if you love photography you could draw and paint a camera
Steps-
1. draw the image with pencil
2. use white paint as a base coat on the black canvas
3. paint over the base coat using color paints

Tunnel books Steps Day 1
Objective- create a 3d tunnel book using your knowledge of foreground, middle ground and background that highlights the Art Deco movement.
1. Google search Art Deco style- email Mette your favorite image that shows Art Deco style

2. Complete planning sheet (digital using SketchbookX or hard copy sheet)
Plan a frame (one page) of the tunnel book for each
Background- the furthest away (this will be your sky)
Middle Ground- below the horizon line (this will be your city skyline of buildings)
Foreground- the closest (this will be the closest city skyline of buildings)
Think: To get a 4 on this project I would like you to have a frame with something hanging it can be stars, the moon, the sun, snowflakes etc. If you are adding this you will need 4 total frames.

3. Complete a materials request sheet (email or hard copy sheet)

Objective- create a 3d tunnel book using your knowledge of foreground, middle ground and background that highlights the Art Deco movement.
1.
Use rulers measure a 1 inch border
2.
Cut out 3-4 rectangular frames for each scene & add design
3.
Draw or trace the scene for the foreground,
middle ground and background
4.
Cut out each scene
5.
Fan fold
2 pieces of paper for the sides
6.
Work backwards from the background sheet and
glue the frames to the side of the fans (assemble sheet)
Lastly- Self assess using evidence sheet
